This maintenance will be performed on 07 March 2023 after 1:00 PM. While loss of power is not expected to happen, there is a potential for this to occur that may affect connectivity for some customers. Please contact the WVNET Help Desk if you experience any issues.

Important Network Updates by Upstream Provider 3ROX to take place December 19

UPDATE

3ROX has completed all maintenance as of 7:15 PM 12/20/2023. Network operations have now returned to their normal state.

Starting at 6:00 AM on December 19, you may experience suboptimal network performance to the Internet and Internet2 due to an infrastructure upgrade by our upstream provider, Three Rivers Optical Exchange, with a scheduled maintenance window of up to 36 hours. This may have an impact on services provided by WVNET.  We recommend rescheduling any significant tasks that are reliant on uninterrupted internet connectivity during this period.

For any specific outages experienced, please contact the WVNET Help Desk at 304.293.5192 or email us at helpdesk@staff.wvnet.edu. Reporting outages will facilitate tracking and communication with our provider to ensure a swift resolution.

We understand the impact this may have on your work, and we appreciate your patience during this upgrade. We will provide addition updates once the upgrade has been completed.

Connectivity Update – Issue has been resolved.

As of 4pm, the issue has been resolved. Work will continue but should not create latency nor outages. We will be monitoring the situation in the South and working with WVOT and K12 to confirm the issue doesn’t return.

Connectivity Issue – Zayo is currently experiencing a multiple line outage in the Charleston, WV area.

Connectivity Issue header

This affects all WVNET traffic in the southern part of the state and users may experience higher latency and slower speeds.  Zayo dispatched crews at 6:30 this morning but does not currently have an ETA on repairs.

Additional updates will be provided as they become available.

West Virginia Statewide Technology Conference Call for Presentations Deadline Feb. 1

The West Virginia Statewide Technology Conference (WVSTC) will return to Morgantown from July 19-21, 2023. The conference has announced its call for presentation proposals as part of the first step to planning the conference.

“This is a great opportunity for professionals who work with technology from all around the state—whether you work in higher ed, K-12 schools, government or even non-profits to showcase programs they’ve implemented, lessons learned, research conducted and more,” says conference co-chair, Sarah Barnes. “We want to shine a light on the fact that West Virginia is a place where we are leading with technology and innovation, too.”

The WVSTC Call for Presentations is open for proposals now through February 1, 2023.

The three-day event expects to host hundreds of educators, consultants, administrators, and directors from West Virginia’s K-12, higher education, state and local government, and non-profit sectors. Attendees will be able to take part in sessions related to a wide range of technology topics, network with peers and visit a technology Vendor Expo. The Expo is expected to feature at least 60 vendors.

“We are currently planning the conference experience and will have more details about our keynote speakers and activities at the conference in the coming months,” said Harmony Garletts, conference co-chair.

The conference is coordinated by the West Virginia Network (WVNET) an organization that has been integral to educational networking and technology for the state of West Virginia since 1975.

The conference takes place from July 19-21, 2023, at the Morgantown Event Center and Morgantown Marriott. For more information and to sign up for email updates, visit https://wvstc.com
